Missing Articles

A viral campaign that put freedom of the press on the front page

Evan Gershkovich, an American journalist for The Wall Street Journal, was arrested and falsely accused of espionage by Russia on March 29, 2023. His real crime? Journalism. As the one-year mark of his arrest approached, we had to call attention to Evan’s unjust detainment and ensure his absence wouldn’t be forgotten. On March 29, 2024, we launched Missing Articles: blank spaces on the cover and within The Wall Street Journal representing Evan’s missing journalism. An information void with the stories Evan should have written, but are now missing.
